Summit School at Nyack is a high school for students with emotional and behavioral special needs. The Summit School at Nyack operates under a charter from the New York State Board of Regents as a special education secondary school. Summit collaborates with each student’s Committee on Special Education (CSE) to create and implement an individualized Education Program. ==School Program== Summit School at Nyack offers two programs for students – day and residential. Students are referred to the day or residential program by their home school district CSE in accordance with the level of structure and supervision that the student requires. While day students leave campus at the end of the school day, students in the residential program continue structured programming with 24 hour care. Summit school staff consists of New York State certified special education teachers, content area teachers, teaching assistants and related service providers including social workers, occupational therapists, school psychologists, and a speech and language pathologist. Summit’s 12:1:1〔http://www.summitnyack.com/school/academic-program/〕 classroom ratio allows for academic support in small and personalized classes. Throughout the year, students are prepared for Regents and Common Core examinations and are availed the Safety Net options designed by the New York State Education Department for students with disabilities. Students at Summit graduate with a New York State Advanced Regents, Regents, or Local Diploma and/or a Career Development and Occupational Students (CDOS) Commencement Credential, all of which are issued by their home school district.
